FAQs
What are your pedestals made of?
All of our pedestals are made from premium quality Cast Stone, an exceptionally durable material crafted from a high-density mix of water, sand, stone aggregate, and cement. The proprietary blend of cast stone by Campania International yields a PSI strength of 7500, making it ideal for both residential and commercial projects. This composition ensures they are weather-resistant and built to last outdoors.
How do I choose the right size and style pedestal?
Consider the item you plan to display; it is all about the proportion of the statue or planter and the pedestal. The overall height should bring the top of the displayed item (statue or planter) to eye level. The diameter or outside top dimension should match or be slightly larger than the base of your statue or the bottom diameter of your planter for the best stability and visual balance.
What is the difference between a Pedestal and a Plinth?
While both serve as display bases, a pedestal (like the Barnett or Coachhouse) is often taller and narrower, with a decorative, architectural shape. A plinth (such as the Square Plinth or Rectangular Plinth) is typically a lower, square, and simpler block used to ground larger objects or to raise a display slightly off the ground. We also offer specialized holders, such as the Winslet Globe Holder, designed for specific decorative pieces.
Can I leave my cast stone pedestal outside during winter?
Yes, cast stone is durable and naturally weather-resistant. However, in regions with harsh winters and freezing temperatures, there are some key steps that need to be taken to avoid freeze-thaw damage. Do not place the pedestal directly on soil or mulch, as this prevents air from circulating around the pedestal. Place the pedestal on a permeable surface, such as pavers, gravel, or concrete. It is best practice to elevate the pedestal off the ground (onto a patio block or gravel surface) to avoid freeze-thaw damage, or store it in a garage or shed if it will be left outside during winter.
Do the pedestals have drainage holes?
The larger pedestals feature a drainage hole (typically centered) to accommodate planters and prevent water accumulation. Smaller pedestals and plinths generally do not have a drainage hole. This detail, as well as additional features, is noted in the Product Specifications on the product page.
Do you have recommended sets of planters and pedestals?
Yes, Campania International offers combinations of their urns and pedestals. They have designed these pairs to match perfectly for function and design. From the best-selling Coachouse Urn and Pedestal to the modern design of the Savoy Planter and Pedestal, there is a style for every landscape project. If none of the combination sets is the perfect fit, our expert designers can help you create your own combination.
