Placing a Trough in your Japanese Garden

Fitting your window box in your Japanese Garden Setting requires raising the base of the trough at the front in order too:

  • Counteract the slope of the sill, leveling the garden
  • Increase the level of the garden so you have maximum visibility from the room. An ideal window box should be built-in, during the construction of the house. However you can attach a prefabricated trough to the wall by angle brackets.

It is extremely important that window boxes and all fitting be completely secure, especially when the window is above ground level and hanging over a public walkway. The weight of the garden is usually sufficient to hold it in place, but precautions are always smart to take. The rough should be fastened to that a skilled person could remove it without any trouble. Bolts and eye hooks should be imbedded in the concrete of the trough.

You can create a weather guard from lightwood and windolite. Glass is a good possibility for weather guards, but it poses difficulties in construction and can be easily broken. The former combination is transparent and lightweight and unbreakable in nature, making it a good alternative to glass. You can create a tent or a round garden cover for your setting. Make sure to keep the roof at a slant to provide for drainage. Make sure fresh air is circulated.

A windolite weather guard can be designed to fit any window box and can be held in place with a stiff wire struts. A permanent glasshouse can be a great solution for small apartment where outdoor facilities are not present. The shape can be in box with a lean-too roof. Make sure it is sturdy, and try to use a synthetic or unbreakable glass.
